The Old Tollers House

The Toll House is approximately 300 years old and was origianlly built for the Toll Keeper to live in and make his/her living from the Tolls passers paid to drive their cattle, sheep etc over the bridge crossing the Wicken Water, to and from the market in Saffron Walden.

To this day Saffron Walden has an interesting market on Tuesdays and Saturdays, though you will not see any whole cows or sheep for sale any more, just fish, bread, olives, fruit, vegetables and cheese!
